Peter and I were absolute contemporaries reading Medicine together at Exeter College, Oxford in the late 50s.  I remember him as a rather shy man but even then as clearly marked for greatness in whatever endeavour he chose to undertake.  His intellect  and his academic ability were both formidable and I am entirely unsurprised that he subsequently enjoyed such a distinguished career.
