In Loving Memory of Peter S. Harper
Dedicated to the memory of Pete
Born in Barnstaple on April 28, 1939, Professor Sir Peter Stanley Harper was a physician and medical geneticist. He passed away on January 23 2021, aged 81, following a stroke.
Pete was a world leader in the genetics of neurological disorders, particularly Huntington Disease and Muscular Dystrophy and a pioneer of genetic counselling and the use of molecular techniques in clinical services for the diagnosis and prediction of neurogenetic disorders.
Having retired in 2004, Pete continued his work during his retirement years by documenting the History of Medical Genetics. Among his many honours was a CBE in 1996 for services to medical genetics and in 2004 he received a knighthood for services to medicine.
Pete is much loved and will always be remembered.
